Pauatahanui Preschool is a Charitable Trust Incorporated, parent co-operative. Parents/guardians and staff work together to run the Preschool. All parents/guardians must therefore take an active role in the running of the Preschool. Parents/guardians should be prepared to

  • Attend the Annual General Meeting and any Special General Meetings called, each year.
  • Attend and actively participate in the Working Bees, which are held 2 to 3 times each year.
  • Be available to assist as parent help. We require families to provide ‘Parent Help’ up to twice per term per child, between the hours of 11.45am to 3pm.  This practice is paramount to the Preschool maintaining its licensed ratios and is compulsory.
  • Actively support fundraisers.

We welcome any additional involvement that parents/guardians can offer.  This includes joining or supporting the management committee.

Management Committee

The management committee is responsible for the running of the Preschool in its entirety. The role of the Management Committee is to work together to ensure the smooth running of the Preschool.

The following is some background information, so you are aware of the function of the Management Committee.

The committee is made up of the following core parent positions:

  • Chairperson
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Human Resources
  • 4 to 7 other parents (Health and Safety, Fundraising, Grants, Policy, Parent Communication etc).

Parents are nominated and elected to these positions at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee is responsible for such things as:

  • Ensuring that the Preschool meets all regulatory requirements ( eg Early Childhood Education standards and regulations,  Employment Contracts Act etc )
  • Ensuring appropriate financial records are maintained including end of year accounts and auditing
  • Employing staff
  • Health and Safety and maintenance of building and grounds
  • Maintenance of resources (toys, equipment)

·        Maintain good relations with the wider community in particular Pauatahanui School

  • Ensuring that the Preschool continues to be a happy, fulfilling and exciting place for the children, staff and parents.

The Committee meets on a monthly basis, this may be more regular if any particular issues arise and need to be attended to.
